Six Months In: A Few Things I’ve Noticed About the Hiring Market

By Ashley Gomez, Director of Recruitment and Operations | Aligned Solutions

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year. Looking back at the searches I’ve worked on over the past six months, one thing is clear, the hiring market is still moving, but it’s moving differently than it was a year or two ago.

I’ve had the opportunity to partner with clients across healthcare, manufacturing, private equity, construction, nonprofit, and professional services, and while every search is unique, there are a few trends I’ve been seeing over and over again.

The biggest one? Companies are being much more intentional with their hiring.

Instead of filling an open seat as quickly as possible, they’re taking a step back and asking bigger questions. They’re looking for leaders who can help them grow, improve processes, strengthen their teams, and make an impact from day one. Culture fit and long-term potential seem to matter more than ever.

On the candidate side, I’ve noticed people are asking better questions too.

Of course compensation is still important, but it isn’t the only factor driving decisions anymore. Candidates want to know about the leadership team, the company’s stability, opportunities for growth, flexibility, and what the culture is really like. They want to understand what success looks like before they make a move.

The strongest candidates usually have options, which means companies can’t afford to let a great candidate sit in interview limbo.

That brings me to one of the biggest lessons I’ve seen this year: speed still matters.

The organizations that communicate well, provide timely feedback, and make decisions with confidence are the ones landing the best talent. On more than one search, I’ve watched exceptional candidates accept another offer simply because another company moved faster. A great interview process doesn’t have to be rushed, but it does need momentum.

Another thing that continues to stand out is how important communication is throughout the process.

Whether I’m talking with a client or a candidate, transparency goes a long way. Candidates appreciate honest updates, even when it’s not the news they were hoping for. And clients benefit from real-time market feedback. Sometimes that means adjusting compensation, rethinking a job description, or refining what they’re looking for. Those conversations may not always be easy, but they almost always lead to better hiring decisions.

One of my favorite parts of recruiting is that no two searches are ever the same. Every client has different goals, every candidate has a different story, and every search teaches me something new. That’s what keeps this job interesting.

As we head into the second half of the year, I’m excited about what’s ahead. Hiring confidence seems to be picking up, and I’m seeing more talented professionals open to conversations about what’s next in their careers.

At Aligned Solutions, we’re focused on building relationships, not just filling jobs. We want to understand our clients’ businesses, represent their brand well, and connect them with people who will make a lasting impact.

I’m grateful to everyone I’ve had the chance to work with this year and look forward to seeing what the next six months bring.
